Studio History
The Outback Studios has been in
existence for the past twenty five years, opening in the fall of 1982, founded
and directed by Jennifer Nairn-Smith. She opened the community based studio
and school, offering professional ballet training to all students, regardless
of their ability or reasons for study. She felt that ballet taught with care
and individual attention is one of the finest aids to physical and mental
developement. Outback Studios, since then, has hosted numerous Los Angeles
choreographers and dancers both in training and the development of new work
and additionally, has presented biannual children's performances for the local
community, and in turn, offering both an opportunity for choreographers and
dancers to present work in an informal environment and the wider Los Angeles
public to experience dance in the spirit of her community-based institution.
