Outback Studios Past Projects
"Dancing at Dusk" September 2002
On Saturday, September 7, 2002 at 7:30pm and on Sunday, September 8, 2002 at 7:00pm Outback Studios presented summer evening dance performances in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, at the Dorothy Colins Brown Ampitheater in Hancock Park, entitled "Dancing at Dusk", the first of many in a new performance series featuring contemporary concert dance in an informal outdoor environment. Outback Studios founder and director Jennifer Nairn-Smith produced the two night event, which featured a variety of numbers including area actors, dancers and musicians opening the show with a performance by children from Park La Brea and Pan Pacific dance, and ending it with "Dancin' Man" by Bob Fosse, with live music, provided by the SuperNova String Quartet, appearing throughout. Inspired by the success of the jazz music series currently presented at LACMA, "Dancing at Dusk" offered an opportunity for emerging and established Los Angeles dancers and choreographers ( Jennifer Nairn-Smith , Stacey McKenzie, Josie Walsh, Lyta Chee, Jeff Chan, Erin Hirsh & Dani Lunn) to present work. In approaching LACMA, and the park, the Outback Studio was seeking to originate a new dance forum in known cultural venues offering a wide population of Angelenos an opportunity to experience dance in an accessible environment.

City of Angeles Junior Ballet Company
The City of Angeles Junior Ballet Company, presented by the Outback Studios and Jennifer Nairn- Smith, was established with the intention to provide an exclusive and extensive facility for students to learn all facets of the ballet arts in an imaginative ambiance where children are nurtured towards an awareness of the dedication, commitment and beauty that are hallmarks of dancer’s artistry. Every student is encouraged to bring ideas for ballets and stories, and from their inspiration, two fairy tale ballets are produced and performed, on June 14 and December 14, annually. Class size is limited to ten only, providing maximum attention and correction for the student, allowing them space to soar with amazing grace, poise, self-confidence, deportment and creativity.
